How to Apply for a Permit
The application process is simple:
- Visit the Official Website: https://film.ca.gov/state-permits/
- Complete the Application: Fill out the Special Use Permit application with your ceremony details such as date, time, and location.
- Add 3 locations of your choice: from your top 1 location to 3 (just in case the first isn’t approved we have 2 more to fall back on without having to do this over again)
- Submit the Fee of $200.00 (Wedding Commercial): Alongside your application, include a non-refundable fee that varies based on your group size and chosen location.
- Message your Permit # to your photographer so she can submit her permit. V.I.P.
- Await Approval: After submitting, wait for your permit approval. Applying well in advance is recommended, especially during peak wedding season, which is typically from May to October.

While all areas of Redwood National and State Parks can be applied for areas in the park with higher visitation or that would conflict with ranger-led programs are subject to time and size constraints, especially during the peak summer season.
